Self: A Journey Through Black Womanhood

In 2021 I was honored to be one of three Black photographers awarded the Redefining Our Voices Grant by Redefining Our Womanhood. The grant provided me with an eight-hour studio session, and I used that time to create Self: A Journey Through Black Womanhood.

This project was deeply personal to me. It allowed me to highlight women of color creatives whose presence, individuality, and resilience deserved to be centered. Through portraiture, I wanted to capture not just who they are but also the power, softness, and nuance within Black womanhood. What started as a grant project grew into both a celebration and an archive, documenting the many facets of identity and self-definition that shape our stories.
